Teenage Fanclub

Date: 26th May 2005
Venue: Carling Academy
The Fannies, one of those bands that I have been into since I was in fact a teenager and probably the band that I have seen live the most. No matter how my music tastes have evolved, this great Scottish band has been a main-stay in my CD collection.
The majority of the audience tonight were probably the furthest removed from being teenagers themselves that you could imagine. But like their audience TFC have matured gracefully, they don’t need to try and impress the crowd with inane chit-chat, no, their music impresses the crowd enough. Norman, Raymond and Gerry still have their ability to harmonise perfectly on stage and the music is its usual tight self.
We were treated to songs from there current offering ‘Man Made” alongside a whole goody bag of treats from their back catalogue. The highlights for me were ‘Sparky’s Dream’, ‘The Concept’ and ‘I Don’t Want Control of you’ although the first track from the new album called ‘Its All In My Mind’ is fast growing to become a favorite. The bands performance was flawless, once some of the older songs got played, the crowd got into it a bit more and I even witnessed some 30 somethings pogoing :D. I am unfortunatley past that so I just stood in the crowd and nodded my head approvingly as the boys performed great song after great song.
And great songs are what the give us, alternative enough to stay clear of the mainstream but poppy enough to give you a great big cheezy smile right through their entire set.
Skivi and Rona also both enjoyed it, a lot more than Morcheeba last week
There is a reason that this band are one of Scotlands favorites, if you don’t believe me, go see them yourself.
May this band remain Teenagers for ever!
