Lambchop

Date: 28/10/06
Venue: ABC1
After the hectic Friday I had, I was very much looking forward to some chilled out sound from Nashville’s finest. Thats what I got.
The night was off to a good start when on the way into the venue, I noticed Mr Kurt Wagner standing outside the venue casually smoking a cigarette. I went up, said hello and told him to have a good show. Luckily Skiv had his camera and managed to get a pic of Guy’s mate Edgy standing with Mr Wagner, that made his night (Edgy’s not Kurts, although I think Kurt was suitabley impressed to meet Guy Incognito, but obviously my powers would make him forget the meeting ever happened as soon as we left)

Guy’s mate Edgy meets Kurt Wagner
I first got into Lambchop through Zero 7, they did a remix of one of there track’s that I really liked and started getting into The ‘Chop after that.
Kurt sits down to play why the rest of this impressive band line up on guitars, piano, drums, bass, Keyboards, samplers and percussion.
The ABC may not be sold out, but the crowd really repect and are into the bluesy, country laid back sound of Wagner and the boys. Tracks are played from all the previous releases including “Is a Woman”, “Nixon”, “Aw C’mon”, “No, you C’mon” and the latest offering “Damaged”. Although my favorite track of theres “Up With People” was not on the set list, there were plenty of other good ‘uns to make up for it.
Kurt really puts himself into his performance his vocals go from soft and quite to load and aggressive and back agin very easily as does his and the bands playing.
Tony the Piano player kept the crowd entertained with various jokes throughout the set, with my favorite one being.
George Bush goes to see his doctor about a personal problem
“Doc” he says, “I have this problem, everytime I see myself in the mirror, I get aroused, why is this happening?”
“Simple Mister President” the doc replies to him, “You’re a C*nt!!”
The crowd were in fits of laughter.
Apart from the occasional fowl language, the band are very dignified in their performance and gave a great display of tight, thoughtful and creative music.
Perfect music for just relaxing to. Go see them if you can.
