“Are you ready for a rock n roll show?” asked Juliette Cape Fear, Natural Born killers, From Dusk Till Dawn, Kalafornia, Strange Days Lewis. The cheer went up and Juliette and her Licks then proceeded to give us just that.

Myself, Skiv and Marc were all in attendence. Kinda weird cause this was only the second time I have been in the big hall at the ABC, the last time was to see Zero 7 and the same two were in tow with me then!!

Juliette was looking foxy with her indian headband, and hot pants. She puts herself into her live shows, from the opening song “Bullshit King” from her current album “Four on The Floor” she jumps about almost like a female Iggy Pop (I said almost Skiv, I know she is nothing like the real thing ).

I will be honest, I am not overly familuar with the Licks work, I have both the albums but they are not normally my thing. But i real had fun watching the band Rock \m/ out as they played “Hot Kiss”, “Sticky Honey” and “American Boy” and “Your Speaking My Language” from her previous album amongst others.

The last time they played Scotland, The Licks filled King Tuts, the fact that the ABC was almost full suggested that their popularity has grown. Unlike other movie stars bands that attempt to break into music (Keanu Reeve’s Dogstar anyone?!?!) Juliette is quite sucessful at what she does and I salute her for what she does. Lets be honest, they are not anything original sounding like anything from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs to the Who, but hey how many original bands are still out there???

Worth checking out her albums and live shows, they do exactly what they say on the tin
