DJ Format

Date: 11th December 2005
Venue: Glasgow QMU
As you may or may not remember for my previous review, the last time I saw Format at King Tuts myself and Robin thought that the sound was a bit naff, Abs, D-Sisive and Format were only on top form but the shitty sound engineer had taken away the punch of their performance.
Luckly that did not happen tonight and the peformance was the best yet. All the classics were there “The Hit Song”, “Three Feet Deep”, “Ugly Brothers” and as it was the remix tour, there were alternative verious of “Seperated at Birth” and “Vicious battle Raps”.
Abs and D-Sisive were their usual full speed, tight, articulate rhyming selves who both show that although they can have a bit of a laugh with what they are rapping about, the stil carrying it off in a professional manner. Format was scratching and cutting effortlessly as normal and had the crowd yelling everytime he had a scratch break. He came out behind the decks for “Ugly Brothers” to stand next to Abs for the Fencing match and Human Pickaxe lines in the verse. Always cracks me up when Abds delivers the “He looks like a nose dropping beats” line.
Similar to last time, the support band was not another Hip hop outfit. We were treated to an instrumental funk band, I can’t for the life of me remember their name (Marc or Kaz, if you can please let me know) but they we pretty cool, even joined format on stage and gave us a live rendition of “Ill Cullenary Behaviour” to finish off the set.
We were then treated to an hour or so DJ set from format that had people including Me Marc and Kaz (Kaz especially) dancing till chucking out time around midnight.
All in all, definately a gig highlight of this year
