Star Signs do your Breakdown Expectancies now!!
As a member of the CSMA (Civil Servant Motoring Association) I am privy to a monthly magazine with all the deals, stories, competitions and in this issue, a star sign motoring survey.
Being of November birth, I fall into the Scorpio bracket, let’s see what it said……
At the bottom of the call-out table. Scorpios are the least likely to break down. Perhaps their investigator personality leads them to fixing more minor faults than other star signs. Their major weakness, when indeed they do have problems, is punctures.
According to the magazine this data was provided by a Breakdown organisation through a survey of over 10,000 individual calls to roadside assistance from their members. Now this got me thinking….. as a Scorpio, if I took out cover with them, technically i am a low risk customer and probably would not need to call on their service.
In insurance terms, the lower the risk, the less the premium, I thought that this policy should also apply to Breakdown cover.
So I rang the firm.
I explained my situation and how judging from the information they had provided for this Star Sign Survey, I felt I was a low risk customer, and asked if they could offer me any deals on my breakdown cover.
Got to hand it to the guy, he was very professional, didn’t laugh once, but politely told me that my Zodiac sign had no bearing on the cost of my quote, how disappointing.
Doesn’t matter though, cause according to my Zodiac sign I really don’t need the help, but alas when I do have car problems its the dreaded……. PUNCTURE!
As it is difficult to find stats around number of punctures in Britain, I have had to make do with the following….
There are 26 million private cars on the UK roads, plus millions of other vehicles with pneumatic tyres. AA statistics in 2002 stated that Britain got through 50 million tyres annually

Ok, we can assume that the amount of cars on the road has gone up since then, but let’s look at these figures shall we. 26 million cars going through 50 million tyres , so thats 1.9 tyres per car, that is of course assuming that every car has had a puncture that year (and yes I now that not all of these replacements will be due to punctures). So I think it is safe to say that punctures are very common?!?!?!
So lets pretend for a minute that I live my life by my horoscope. The chances are that I, statistically speaking, have had puncture(s), so this sign must be right. However, once I take the black cab to real street (thank you Enzo) it is plain to see that I have discounted the fact that punctures are common to everyone.
Star Signs = BAG OF SH*TE!!
