“Flim Flam” a book written by James Randi in which he exposes what he believes to be the outrageous deception that has been promoted widely in the media…… Psychics.

I could not have thought of a more appropriate title for the Category that will (hopefully) become a regular feature in my blogs.

Psychic were something that I really never gave a lot of thought about, but over the past month myself and some friends have been talking, reading and watching clips of them. I am not saying that human-kind does not have the ability to develop Psychic powers, but from the research that I have read from the likes of Mr Randi, the famous ones that are making money off of this supposed power are fakes.

Now I am sure there are people out there that Psychic’s are harmless, but I feel that they are

1) Exploiting people of a vulnerable situation
2) Giving false hope or causing unnecessary distress to people at readings
3) Conning people

and in GI’s book, that is unacceptable.

The reason I have become a bit enthusiastic about this field was after learning about one Sylvia Browne. She is one of America’s leading “Psychics”, has published many books, hold seminars and makes regual appearances on the Montel Williams show. The case that angered me the most was when I found out about the disappearance of a young boy called Shawn Hornbeck. Shawn’s parent appeared on William’s show 23rd Feb 2003 seeking the help of Browne. Browne informed the parents that Shawn was “no longer with us” (dead) and gave a breif description of where the body was and who took him. On Friday, January 12, 2007 Shawn was found very much alive, far from where Browne had said the body was and was kidnapped by someone very different from who she had said.

To me, the level of distress that this woman caused Shawn’s family not to mention the waste of resources by the polices searching this supposed location is nothing short than Criminal…. and it’s not the first time she’s got it wrong either. Lets be honest, if any of us did our job wrong the amount of times that she has, we would either be fired or realise that we are not on the correct career path, not Sylvia!!.

I like humanity on the whole, I believe we have a lot of potential, but with charlatans like Browne continuing to exploit people, we are always going to be held back a little bit. Through my Flim Flam posts I hope, like other sites that feel similar, to strengthen the resolve of those that don’t believe, help those that are undecided to make a more informed choice, and ask that those that do believe take a second look at why. As I am new to this, I will be relying on the research carried out by other like minded people and published either by written work or Interweb. As my knowledge base increases, I hope to bring you my own findings, experiments and opinions over time.
