Smokin’ Aces

May the best hitman win.

At last I have found a benefit for being a “Civil Servant” Horray!! I discoved that as a member of one the the departments social clubs, I can get cheap cinema tickets WOOO-HOO!

So after ordering a bunch of um’ I decided to treat myself to a trip to the movies tonight.

Now, there are currently 2 movies that I want to see, Last King of Scotland and Smokin’ Aces, and the reason you are reading about the latter is that I have recentley learned to read books without pictures and am working my way through LKOS, so want to finish the book before I see it (don’t worry Bob, almost done!!)

Anyway Smokin’ Aces, anyone that has seen the trailer knows what to expect Guns, Shooting, More Guns, explosions, more shooting and a wee drop extra guns. But believe it or not, there is a story line hidden amongst all the testosterone and blood shed, quite a complex storyline at that. The film does try very hard to look cool, and to a great degree it does, but we have seen this level of cool before in the likes of Oceans 11, Things to Do In Denver When You’re Dead. But this is still a decent flick.

Great performances from Ryan Reynolds whom me and my cohorts once thought would be the new Chevy Chase after his Hi-larious performance in Van Wilder but then we thought he had blown it after appearing in the dreadful Blade Trinity. Still he does a good serious role as FBI Agent Richard Messner.

Now believe me on how seriously I make this comment. I can safely say that Ben Affleck gives us his greatest acting role…. Ever. People that know me and know my views on The Affleck may be surprised to hear that. He starts off less than Mediocre, but after his exchange with the Tremor Gang (by far Guy Incognito’s favorite Hit Crew, well except for the whole Fascist angle which I don’t agree with, they are by far the most commical/homicidal) Affleck give a performance that makes Al Pacino look like Nic Cage. Truly, he is Da Bomb in this flick.

They are all good in this, Ray Liotta, Andy Garcia, http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005315/, heck, even Alicia Keys does not annoy me as much in this movie as her singing does!!! ok no Oscar nominations will be handed out, but if you have some spare pocket money it worth is for gun fight that puts True Romance to shame.
