“An absolute must have…. One wonders if Brooks knows something we don’t” - SIMON PEGG

Well, if it is good enough for the Pegg, its good enough for me!!!

I first heard about this book from my mate Gary. He read it and thought “Guy Incognito will love this book”. Anyone who knows me, knows that I luuuuuuv Zombies.

In a time where we have had remakes of Dawn of the Dead, new movies like Shaun of the Dead and Romero’s last flick Land of the Dead its easy to say that there is no shortage of Zombie stories out their today, what seperates this story from all of them is how it is told.

A few years ago I read the book “Nam” by Mark Baker. I liked it as it was people who lived and fought through that war telling stories of their experience and feelings of it on a very personal level. This book is written in a similar vain. Imagine if you will that the undead ravaged the planet as it is today, how it would affect us socially, politically, economically and what would it be like if the human race was on the brink of extinction. If you lived through this, what stories of fear, pain, sacrifice, horror, heroism, unity and survival would you have to tell?

Thats how this book is laid out. It is written from the point of view from people from different countries, cultures, races, religions, social background and environments and how the war with the “Zacks” affected them and the world. When reading this book, I tended to forget that there is no such thing as “The Great Zombie War” I was that hooked in on the story, the fact that it takes into account the social climate that we live in today makes it very realistic. I really did not want this book to end.

Lately I have been mostly reading Counselling books, so my first journey into Fiction for a long time was well worth it. I recommend this book to every one, its not just a Zombie story, its so much much more, 342 pages of a man’s imagination making the unbelievable as believable as possible.

I have been very careful to not give away any spoilers, but this book gives you the full range of emotions when reading it.

There is rumours of a movie, I hope they are true, but if so, I hope it will stay true to this brilliant read.
