Chanbara
For those of you not in the know, Guy has been Chillaxing from work for 2 weeks, and it has been great!! I visited the Falkirk wheel and will be inviting all my friends at the Moose to come and enjoy my lengthy slideshow presentation of the wheel with some amazing footage oft “The Wheel in Action” there will be a Q&A section plus a competition to make your own Falkirk Wheel ![]()
Anyways, I decided to at least see something at the Edinburgh Festival this year (as well as Spearhead I must add!!) My colleague Ross is also off this week so suggested going to see Chanbarra. IT WAS FREAKIN’ AWESOME!!!
I had no expectaions about this, all I knew was that it was something to do with Samuria and one or more of the guys from the “Crazy 88″ in the Kill Bill movie had something to do with it. Turns out the guy is called Tesuro Shimaguchi he is a specialist of Nitou (swords in two hands) and a fan favorite of Tarantino.
I had no idea it would be soooooooooo good. Beautifully choreographed swordfights, thumping drums to represent the Swordsman’s hearts, even a smidgen of comedy as one of the acts is a teacher trying to show 2 students what to do with hi-larious consequences!!!
The fight scenes were amazing, very graceful and yet just oozed honour!! I was suitablly impressed by all involved, especially the musicians, the drumming was amazing the endurance it took for the big guy to keeping pounding the big drum was amazing.
The show lasts an hour, but it doesn’t seem so, well worth checkin’ out if you ever get the chance. Kinda makes me want to own a Katana (purely for decorative purposes you understand)
Here is some video footage that I took and uploaded to Youtube, sound is a tad distorted and the fottage is a little dark, but give me a break I used by domestic digital camera not the super Incognito Cam that I use on missions….
