All good things really do come to an end!

I am gutted. My favorite UK record label is no more!!!! :(
Mark Rae and Stephen Christian (aka Rae & Christian) formed Grand Central Records in Manchester in 1995. In it’s 11 year run the label brought me many many many fine pieces of music from the likes of Jon Kennedy, Aim, Only Child, Kate Rodgers and a whole host of others. The label was quite diverse dealing with hip-hop, downtempo, breakbeat, drum n bass and even Folk, There was a time that I just bought any cd that came out on the label as i knew it would be good!!

I am not sure to the reason the label went, probably financial as it was not one of these Multi millionaire advertisment endorsed corporate whore of a record label that infests the music world. But I had tried to get on to the labels website only to discover that it was closed. I imediatley contacting my (myspace) friend Jon Kennedy and he confirmed it.

Tis a sad day, I know most of you reading will not have a clue what I am going on about, but this label gave me music that helped shape my taste today and will be sorely missed by me.

I only hope that the impressive, highly talented, diverse and creative catalogue of artisits that were signed to this label go on to better things as they all deserve it.

I finish by saying this “Rae, Christian, so long and thanks for all the great tunes”.

I’ve never heard of Grand Central Records, and I don’t recognise any of the artists you mention. In fact, I don’t recognise the genres either. What the banana is folk?

But since when has a lack of knowledge ever stopped morons forming an opinion? Never, that’s when! So my opinion is:

Man, that sucks! I’m going to burn all my EMI LPs in protest!

Meep. :-( Rumour has it, it was questions over royalty payments that led to the downfall of GCR. Its a sad day indeed.
