Good Night, and Good Luck

In A Nation Terrorized By Its Own Government, One Man Dared to Tell The Truth

Good ol’ Ajay is back from his jet set life style touring with the Belles at the moment, so we decided to go catch a flick as it had been a while since I seen the young chap!!!

We opted for George Clooney’s “Good Night, and Good Luck”. A very, very good choice.

Filmed in black and white and set in the 50s it follows the story of news reporter Edward R. Murrow as he takes on Senator Thomas McCarthy over his “tactics” for finding “Card Carrying Communists” in the states.

The film looks very much of the era in which it is based, the Black and White, the clothes, the language, and yes, the hair cuts. David Strathairn gives a performance of Murrow like he is a reporter from the fifties, very stow faced, articulate and constantly smoking!

Clooney opted for using real footage of McCarthy, which makes it even more entertaining when you realise how much of a uni-browed prat the Senator was. Decent performances from Clooner, Robert Downey Jr and Grant Heslov make this well worth your money. Not everyone’s bag, but if you choose to support independent cinema, you could do a lot worse than this!
