King Kong
Ahh, Peter Jackson, it seems like only yesterday i was watching the low grade special effects of Bad Taste and thinking, “This guy’s a genius”. Then when you gave us the goretastic Braindead I thought, man this guy know how to make a splatter movie!!!!!!
Then the special effect budget started to go up in Heavenly Creatures and just when we thought you had peaked with The Frighteners you go and bring the Rings trilogy to the big screen and amaze (most) of us.
So what could New Zelands best know beard do next?
King Kong of course!!!!
SFX are spectactular, Kong looks amazing, Skull Island looks amazing, lets just say the film looks good.
The story is just a mirror of the 1933 original movie but it is still worth seeing. Good performances mainly from Jack Black and Adrian Brodie but it really is the CGI ape that steals the show with some awesome fight scenes. Why is it that Jackson’s CGI chartacters such as The Soul Reaver in the Frighteners and Gollum in the Rings are actually good and believeable whereas Lucas keeps bringing us the most annoying CGI characters that ever existed?!?!?!!?!?
The good thing with Kong is that the 3 hours does not seem like 3 hours, like it did with say Heat it is well worth seeing.

Hahaha! You only just saw Kong? It’s been out for aaaaages!
…
Says me who has still to see it…
I really want to see Kong because it has dinosaurs, and the last film I saw at the cinema, Memoirs of a Geisha, had none. Naturally it was a total waste of time. A two and a half hour long film with NO dinosaurs, NO zombies, NO Hobbits and NO Ghostbusters is guaranteed to suck.

This is the first time I have been to the movies since Doom!!!!!!!
Still to see Jarhead and Underworld: Evolution came out this weekend, need to see that to.
Wasn’t too fussed about missing Potter and Narnia though, and i don’t think Memoirs of a Geisha is my kind of flick. Still, you took that one for the team

I’ve not seen Kong yet
Bear in mind that Lucas gave us Yoda as well as Jar-Jar, and Yoda was kickass in places! The big difference between the two is that the PJ used an actual actor to ‘be’ Gollum and Kong (Peter Serkis in both cases) which adds a lot of nuance to the character. Partly this was only possible due to advances in technology allowing them to erase a character from the scene and replace him with CGI, which adds believability to the character through interaction with ‘real world’ objects.

Its Andy Serkis you numpty! I personally am recommending Memoirs of a Geisha if you like sushi and foreign culture. Very evocative and lyrical.
