Can’t get enough of that wonderful Scruff

I was going to put this as a gig review, but because it was more of a DJ night, i shall just write about it here.

Mr Scruff

Last night myself, Robin and Hue went to the Arches to see Ninja Tune’s very own Mr Scruff entertain the masses at the Arches in Glasgow. What a top notch night it was!!!!! :D
Before I talk about the music, lets talk about the merch stall. Anyone ever been to a night where you can buy cups of tea and get a slice of cake? No? Well I now have. Talk about thinking outside the box. Hue had looked a bit tired at the start of the night, but after a cup of Mr Scruff’s tea, he was re-energised and ready to hit the dance floor, As well as your standard t-shirt selection, you could buy Mr Scruff tea towels, Mr Scruff umbrellas and even Mr Scruff aprons. I was so inspired by these novilties that I bought a Scruff tea towel and apron.

But now the real reason i was there, the music. Scruff must have many a record bag with him that night as he rolled though his Jazz, Funk, Soul, Dub, Breakbeat, Drum n’ Bass and Hip Hop, oh and not forgetting when he dropped in Ian Dury’s “Hit Me with Your Rhythm Stick” much to the crowds delight. He Mixed effortlessly on his three turntables between records and Genres to keep the dancefloor packed for the whole night, now credit due to the man, he did DJ for around 6 hours, so I doff my cap to him.

The visuals were pretty good too, too big screens showing Mr Scruff images, warning us that a Bass Line was about to kick in and encouraging us to “Get our knees up” and “Wobble our legs” and just as you thought the man had finished “One more tune?” was up on the screen getting the crowd to yell for more, and of course Scruff failed to disappoint!!!

Myself, Robin and Hue were up on the dance floor pretty much the whole night. I even spied Kaz the Cat cutting a mean rug on the dancefloor.

All in all a top night, with the exception of the 40 minute wait for a taxi at 4 in the morning in the freezing cold!!!!! Oh well at least I had a subway sandwich to see me through.

I am also glad to point out that despite the numerous bottles of “Moosehead” lager (mrben, Bigal, I think this should become the offical drink of Jedimoose) at Beir Republic and my continued consumption at The Arches, I am relatively hang-over free :D that cup of tea must have done me the world of good!

I shall finsh by saying this, For those of you not aqquainted with Mr Scruff, sort it out!!!!!

….you seem to have left out a bit….like how impressed you were by the aprons that not only did you buy one….but you wore it from that moment on proclaiming “this is the best thing i’ve ever bought” at various junctures.
Dancing in an apron….can’t happen every weekend….
