DJ Format - If You Can’t Join ‘Em… Beat ‘Em

DJ Format

Oh man, I was so excited about this album cominmg out, and it has failed to disappoint.

After the brillant ‘Music for the Mature B-Boy’ album, Format has picked up where he has left off with ‘If you can’t…..’ Vocals are again supplied by Cryptic Souls Crew MC Abdominal and Jurassic 5’s Charli 2Na and Akil, but this time Ab’s Canadian colleague D-Sisive also lends his vocals to 2 of Ab’s tracks and 1 one his own. Not forgetting Formats instruments which are of the usual high standard.

To me, this is how Hip Hop ought to be all the time. I can’t stand Eminem, 50 Cent, Naz and all that stuf that seems to be hindering Hip Hop’s progression by just slagging people off all the time, using weak beats and not having particularly clever rhyming. I know I am in the minority, but whats in the charts is not what I class as Hip Hop!!!!!

Format takes us back to the ‘Old School’ style of hip hop, the way it used to be done. Ab’s and D-Sisive’s style of ‘Rockin’ the Mic’ continues to impress me with how good they really are compared to most rappers about today.

Its the kind of music that makes you smile while you are bouncing up and down listening to it. It’s the way Hip Hop should be!!

Well worth buying, even if you just dabble in Hip Hop or are an Eminem fan, this will let you see how Hip Hop is done right!!!

“I’ll still love Hip Hop when they are filling my grave in!”

I am troubled by your passion for this type of music I just can’t see you in skiphat round wrong way, oversized jeans and bling or clothes on back to front (circa Kriss Kross), however, I will be donating to you my PJ & Duncan album Psyche, this album contains the classic “let’s get ready to rumble” this song contains the lyric “rockin the mic” which you quote in your rant. These two are pioneers in the rap world, along with Kriss Kross they spoke for a generation of people and I can’t let you not acknowledge these groups as you are so obviously a fan of this type of mince.

    Chrissybhoy, how ya doin’ mate?

Naw man, I just like to ‘Keep it real’ and kick it ‘Old School’, unfortuantely PJ & Duncan do neither, once more I am concerned about you and your music taste, seriously you would have been in your twenties when they were about, for goodness sake man, whats wrong with you, next you will be telling me you have a pair of Bros jeans or somethin’!

As regards to the fashion, well lets just say I will be ‘RESPRESENTING’ at the music quiz, ya heard?, but I ain’t about the Bling Bling, I’m all about tha Lyrics, WORD!

    Peace out Sucka!

PJ and Duncan were nearly as good as Mark Morrison (the Mac is back!), Warren G, Coolio (Gangsta’s Paradise) and 2 Unlimited (”2 Unlimited break it, break it” - clumsy buggers obviously).

The only hip hop is bad hip hop. I admit to having once liked Eminem before he became even more of a tosser than he was before, but aside from that, as my Red Indian relatives say “it’s bad medecine”.

Rap should have died with Grandmaster Flash & The Furios Fives ‘The Message.’
