End Of The Century

End Of The Century

Ok, I am not the biggest Ramones fan in the world. I like them, sure, but I only own a best of and not their back cat. Skivi is the biggest Ramones fan out of everyone I know, in fact I am pretty sure he travelled down to London to see them play their last ever gig in the UK.

Anyway, I went to see ‘The End of The Century, the Story of the Ramones’ last night at the GFT with Lenny The Bruce and Guns n’ Rosses. It blew ‘Some kind of Monster’ (which I reviewed earlier) clean out of the water. It didn’t have the production value of the ‘Tallica doc, but that was a good thing. It was a series of interviews filmed through out the Ramones careers strung together to tell the story. Sometimes the sound quality wasn’t great and the video footage is quite grainy, but that rawness adds to overall effect of the movie.

Again, I don’t want to ruin it for any Ramones fans out there that want to see it, but the thing that sticks out for me the most was how the hell did this band stay together for their whole career if they hated each other so much?!?!?!

This movie gave me a goal in life. As you probably know, I love hip hop, this movie showed me the most important thing to happen to Hip Hop since the invention of record scratching….. Dee Dee King!!!

Yes, if like me you did not know this, Dee Dee Ramone released a Hip Hop in 1988. I am speechless to decribe the few moments of audio and video footage I saw of this unique musical masterpiece. Dee Dee is crazy right through the documentry but nothing quite beats the sight of seeing him transform from the leather jacket wearing Ramones bass player to the gold chain, high top wearing B-Boy known as Dee Dee King……… Its Priceless.

I MUST POSSESS THIS ALBUM, THIS IS MY GOAL IN LIFE!

End of the Century is a must for both fans of the band and people into music in general as it shows the extent of the band’s influence over the years. If it is showing at a cinema near you check it out, or purchase the DVD at your earliest opportunity.

If anyone has Dee Dee King’s Album “Standing In The Spotlight” please get in touch.

This is what a music documentary is all about.

It exposes Metallica’s ‘Some kind of Monster’ as the complete fraud it is, while showing future film makers how to put together this film genre on screen.
