Boogeyman

Ok, before you say “Guy, why the hell did you go and see this movie!?!?!?!”, let me explain. My good friend Skivi is on the Orange network and last night being Wednesday, he can get someone into the cinema for free. I had no plans last night so thought, ok lets go watch some crap!!!

Thanks goodness I did not have to pay to see this movie. It was awful, I mean, I honestly don’t think there is any originality in Hollyweird at the moment! This film should have been call ‘Bogeyman’ as I assume that the genius behind it sneezed out the script and storyline. Sam Rami’s name appeared in the credits, but I can only hope that it is another Sam Rami, not the one who brough us the Evil Dead movies (although some of the camera movements in the film make me think that it is his influence).

Every half decent horror movie over the past couple of years has been ripped of in this film, Ring, Grudge etc. To even call this film a Horror is a bit of a strech. If it wasn’t for the cinema sound system blaring loud noises every 10 minutes to make you jump, then I would have fallen asleep.

The premise of the story is a guy that is scared of closets!!!!! WHAT THE HELL IS THAT!!! I mean, closets, is this some sort of metaphor for him being gay??? Everybody in this film is instantly forgetable, they have as much screen presence as a boom mike, which depite the fact that this movie looks like it was made by a bunch of 9 year olds, did not come into shot any time during the movie (that would have instantly been the high point of the movie).

There is a bit where the main actor follows a kid through a park and then takes her into an empty house, is that sinister or what!!!!

One good point, I got to see the Sin City trailer before the film started, but that was instantly cancelled out because of how bad this movie was. Skivi liked it, I have no idea why, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion (I suppose). BUT HE WAS WRONG in my book.

You need to see this film like you need un-required brain surgery!!!!!!

I watched this film on Saturday night and what a waste of celluloid it is. The acting is abysmal (aside from the lead character, but even he isn’t that great). The script writing is awful and I truly mean AWFUL. That scene where the girl is hiding in the out house/garage part and he goes in to investigate the noise and instead of saying the logical thing of “who are you and what are you doing here” he asks her to come out of the garage with him. What creeped me about that part is the fact that he could have been anyone (obviously though as the plot reveals itself the girl had nothing to fear from him even if he had turned out to be a weirdo).

Another point about how bad the script is was near the start at the family dinner. It sounded to me as if it had been written by a 13 year old and Tim’s girlfriend played her part badly in the film. Not to mention all the serious plotholes to be had.

The special effects of the ending were terrible as well. I think the Boogeyman would have been better off remaining the way he was at the beginning in shadow rather than (SPOILER ALERT!) like the action figure Tim had at the side of the bed. But do you know something, I remember saying “that figure looks a bit odd, I hope the Boogeyman doesn’t look like that as that’s not scary at all”. Lo and behold I was proved right.

I heard very bad reviews about this film and I am not pleased to see they have all been proved right. Not all modern horror films are bad, the Descent is worth watching, but this one is not worth it.

This film is in the same dull league as The Skeleton Key. Another awful, modern horror film.

So couldn’t agree with you more Guy.
